چکیده

In recent papers, Tanabe et al.(1956,1957) reported that no increase in the uptake of I131 by the thyroid was observed in molting hens as compared with laying hens, and no acceleration in the release of I131 as thyroid hormone from the thyroid of the hen was observed either in molting period or in pre-molting period. Further-more, it has been shown that thiouracil feeding does not prevent naturally occurring molt of the hen(Sulman and Perek, 1947; Himeno and Tanabe, 1957a). These results indicate that natural molting in the hen is not induced by the increased activity of the thyroid. The present investigations were initiated to determine the thyrotrophic hormone content of the pituitary of molting and laying hens.

The Effect of a Dietary Innovative Multi-Material on Sex Hormones and Molting Period of Canaries and Laying-Hens

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of offering a multi-material innovative (MMI) feed including: Vitex agnus-castus, Thymus vulgaris, Lavandula angustifolia, Marigold (Calendula officinalis) on curtails molting and sex hormone concentrations in canaries and laying hens. In the first study, a total of 120 female molted canaries were allotted in to 12 cages of 10 birds with 4 ...

Comparative gonadotrophic potency of anterior pituitaries from cocks, laying hens and non-laying hens in molt.

A bulk of studies on the assay of gonadotrophic hormone content of the anterior pituitary from the animals in various reproductive conditions has been done. Riley and Fraps(1942b) assayed pituitary glands from chickens in various reproductive stages, judging the gonadotrophic potency by the increment of uterine weights of immature mice, and concluded that glands from non-laying hens produced a ...

The Effect of Vitex Agnuse Castus Fruit Powder on Hypothalamic GnRH Gene Expression in Laying Hens

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is a key regulatory molecule of the hypothalamus–pituitary gonadal axis which induces transcription of luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary. Research has shown that estrogen plays an important role in regulating GnRH. Also, recent experiments indicated that Vitex agnus-castus (VAC) has high levels of phytoestrogen. Hence, this research was p...

Changes in the population of proliferating cells in chicken anterior pituitary during induced molting: an immunocytochemical analysis for proliferating cell nuclear antigen.

The goal of this study was to determine whether cell proliferation is increased in the anterior pituitary during an induced molting period in chickens. The anterior pituitaries were collected from: 1) laying hens before initiation of an induced molt (control hens), 2) molting hens 2 to 16 d after cessation of lay, and 3) second cycle laying hens 1 d after returning to lay. Pituitary cephalic an...

Differences in the mucosal surface barrier formed by mucin in the lower oviductal segments between laying and molting hens.

The aim of this study was to determine the differences in the mucin expression that forms a mucosal surface barrier in the oviduct between laying and molting hens. The lower segments of oviducts (isthmus, uterus, and vagina) of White Leghorn laying and molting hens were collected. Localization and gene expression of mucosal mucin were analyzed by quantitative reverse-transcription PCR of mucin ...
